St. Mary's church is an 1880s era church and one of the last structures remaining built from Joliet Limestone. Celadon Holdings, an affordable housing developer, recently saved the building from demolition and plans to redevelop and convert it to senior apartments, however the extreme complexity and cost to accomplish this requires help from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) through the granting of special funding for the project. The project will be renamed "The Limestone Residences on the Mother Road," a nod to the beautiful structure's location on historic Route 66. The people of Joliet and the Historic Preservation Community strongly urge you to support Celadon Holding's efforts to save this important icon.
